The IP Studio was formed in 2017 as a collaboration between independent patent and trade mark attorneys, and from 1 April 2020, The IP Studio has been operating as a single incorporated patent and trade mark attorney practice.
We enjoy working with a wide range of companies to advise on and help protect their intellectual property in New Zealand and Australia, and have long-standing relationships with international attorneys to manage and protect client's IP in international markets.
Jennifer Lucas is a registered New Zealand and Australian patent attorney with over 15 years’ experience in the IP industry, both in NZ and the UK. Having spent 6 years in private practice, Jennifer founded her own practice in 2014 to working with some of New Zealand’s most exciting new start-ups and innovative companies, while providing a more personal approach to tackling and managing IP.
Jennifer specialises in drafting and prosecution of patent applications, with particular experience in chemistry, chemical process technology, medical devices, food technology and mechanical inventions. She can assist you with patent searching and freedom to operate opinions for new invention ideas, as well as IP strategy advice and the preparation and filing of registered designs.
Jennifer is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys.

Angela specialises in the protection, maintenance, exploitation and enforcement of trade marks, both in New Zealand and overseas.
Angela enjoys getting to know her clients’ businesses so she can give tailored, strategic advice to ensure their valuable trade marks are protected in New Zealand and export markets. Angela has advised all types of companies, from large multinationals to start-ups, from a wide range of industries including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, electronics, medical, construction, entertainment, fashion and fitness. She prides herself on providing her clients with practical and cost-effective advice.
Angela is a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Mark Attorney and brings 13 years’ experience working in one of New Zealand’s leading IP firms. Before that, she worked at an intellectual property law firm in Sydney, Australia while attending University of Technology, Sydney completing a Graduate Certificate in Australian Trade Marks Law and Practice.
